Key responsibilities
The AML compliance manager is responsible for designing, implementing and overseeing the firm anti-money laundering (AML) and combating the financing of terrorism (CFT) compliance programme. This role ensures strict adherence to all UAE and international AML laws and regulations, mitigates financial crime risks and acts as the primary liaison with regulatory authorities. The role requires a minimum of five to eight years of experience in AML and CFT compliance, preferably within an accounting or auditing firm, or the financial services industry.
- Policy development and implementation
Develop, implement and maintain the firm AML and CFT policies, procedures and internal controls in line with evolving regulations and leading practices. - Risk management
Lead regular, firm-wide AML and CFT risk assessments to identify, evaluate and mitigate potential risks associated with clients, services and geographic exposures. - Customer due diligence (CDD) and KYC
Oversee know your customer (KYC) and customer due diligence (CDD) processes, including enhanced due diligence (EDD) for high-risk clients and politically exposed persons (PEPs). - Transaction monitoring and reporting
Monitor client activities and transactions for unusual or suspicious patterns. Lead investigations into potential suspicious activities and, where required, prepare and submit suspicious transaction reports (STRs) to the financial intelligence unit (FIU) through platforms such as goAML. - Regulatory liaison and reporting
Act as the primary point of contact for regulatory bodies. Coordinate and support regulatory inspections, audits and examinations, ensuring all mandatory reports are submitted accurately and on time. - Training and awareness
Design, deliver and document ongoing AML and CFT training programmes for all employees, ensuring awareness of regulatory obligations, emerging red flags and internal reporting procedures. - Record keeping
Ensure all AML-related documentation, client records and audit trails are maintained accurately and securely for the required retention periods. - Continuous improvement
Monitor changes in laws and regulations and conduct gap analyses to ensure the compliance programme remains current and effective.
Qualifications
- Bachelor’s degree in accounting, finance, law, business administration or a related field
- Master's degree is an advantage
- relevant professional certification is highly preferred, such as certified anti-money laundering specialist (CAMS) or ICA diploma in AML
- Strong working knowledge of UAE AML laws and FATF recommendations
