Tax Newsletter - Tax on crypto asset transactions

The Indonesian Minister of Finance recently released MoF Regulation No. 50 Year 2025 (“MoFR 50/2025”) enacted on 1 August 2025 concerning tax on crypto asset trading transactions. It essentially replaces MoFR No. 68/PMK.03/2022 concerning the same subject through MoFR 81Year 2024 as last amended by MoFR No. 54 Year 2025 enacted on 1 August 2025. Crypto asset was characterised as commodity before it is changed lately to digital financial asset by Law No. 4 Year 2023 1 and Government Regulation No. 49 Year 2024 2. This is followed by a change in the tax treatment on crypto asset transactions accordingly.
