Major James Mutabaazi Director - Tax

Major James is a seasoned tax expert and Director of the Tax Department at Forvis Mazars Uganda, with over 15 years of extensive experience in income tax compliance, due diligence, and transfer pricing. He holds a Bachelor of International Business (Hons) from Makerere University Business School and a Postgraduate Diploma in Tax and Revenue Administration, and he manages a portfolio of more than 100 clients annually, advising on both local and international tax matters.

He has led tax teams in designing and implementing income tax compliance frameworks, reviewing complex transactions, and issuing well‑documented tax opinions that support defensible positions with regulators. His key skills include income tax compliance and advisory under Uganda’s Income Tax Act, transfer pricing and cross‑border taxation aligned with OECD guidelines, tax risk management for corporate and donor‑funded projects, and policy advisory on tax reforms and governance structures.

Major’s leadership emphasizes quality assurance through rigorous review processes, clear reporting, and capacity building for clients and internal teams. He works closely with regulators and development agencies, cultivating strong stakeholder relationships—including with the Uganda Revenue Authority—to facilitate smooth compliance and help organizations build transparent, sustainable, and compliant financial structures.
