What’s the issue?
On 8 September 2023, a devastating 6.9 magnitude earthquake struck Morocco, claiming the lives of nearly 3,000 people and causing widespread damage to historic landmarks and villages, particularly in the province of Al-Haouz. In the rural commune of Anougal, educational infrastructure suffered significant damage, disrupting the academic journey of countless children.
How are we addressing it?
In response to the devastating impact of the earthquake, we partnered with the NGO, l'Association El Baraka Angels to help support the immediate recovery of the affected communities. Our efforts began with cleaning up the impact areas and providing essential supplies to families in need.
Recognising the urgent necessity to restore access to education before the onset of a harsh winter, we then focused on rebuilding critical infrastructure. Together we constructed a new school and boarding facilities in Anougal, ensuring that children have a safe, nurturing environment to continue their studies and rebuild their future.
What’s the lasting impact?
By providing both classroom space and boarding facilities, the project ensures that children from remote villages can attend school without the risk of long, dangerous daily commutes. Beyond rebuilding structures, this initiative strengthens educational continuity, offering students a chance to learn, grow and plan for their next chapter.
