Mazars, a key player in professional debates

Mazars intends to be a key player in public thinking, on topics related to its professional environment and accounting regulations at national and international levels. But the Group also works with international government bodies on matters concerning a much broader economic environment.

This year was marked, among others, by two main events with regards to this strategy. Christine Lagarde, French Minister of Finance, Industry and Employment commissioned Fabrice Demarigny, Mazars head of “capital markets” to supervise a report on proposals to write a Small Business Act into European stock exchange law. The Small Business Act aims to create a favourable environment for Small and Medium-sized Issuers Listed in Europe (SMILEs). Mrs Lagarde and her German counterpart Wolfgang Schaüble, Federal Finance Minister, used the report’s conclusions to defend the project in front of the European Commission, but also send it to every other European Finance Minister to raise awareness to this matter. The full report is available for download on our website.

The European Commission also ordered from Mazars a report evaluating the implementation of the Transparency Directive by listed companies. After a year-long study in 15 EU countries and 6 additional markets, the Group submitted its review and suggestions for improvements. The full report as well as its executive summary can be downloaded from our website.

Mazars also plays an active part in the definition and interpretation of accounting practices and regulations on a European and international level, through its participation in several accounting professional bodies.
