Our Eye on Education - Giving South African learners a clear vision for success

Through our partnership with the African Eye initiative, Forvis Mazars is helping remove a significant barrier to education for learners in under-resourced communities.

Many children struggle in the classroom due to undiagnosed eyesight challenges that families cannot afford to address. Through eye health education, screenings, testing, and the provision of prescription spectacles, the initiative gives learners the opportunity to fully participate in their education and reach their potential.

To date, the programme has screened 1,435 learners across six schools in South Africa and provided 402 learners with prescription spectacles, helping to improve vision, confidence, and classroom engagement.

Our impact includes:

Free State – Lereko Secondary School: 142 learners screened, 28 spectacles issued
Durban – Umzinyathi Primary School: 203 learners screened, 55 spectacles issued
Cape Town – Christel House SA: 242 learners screened, 37 spectacles issued
Cape Town – LEAP Science and Maths School 1 & 2: 231 learners screened, 79 spectacles issued
Eastern Cape – Bethvale Primary School: 500 learners screened, 126 spectacles issued
Gauteng – J Jekana Secondary School: 117 learners screened, 77 spectacles issued

By improving learners' ability to see clearly, the programme creates lasting impact in the classroom, supports school retention, and contributes to brighter futures in the communities where we operate.
