IMSS Digitalises the Employer Identification Card: what companies need to know
IMSS Digitalises the Employer Identification Card
From 10 September 2026, this new format will be available through the IMSS Mailbox (Buzón IMSS), replacing the traditional system of issuing and physically managing the card.
What is the Employer Identification Card (TIP)?
The Employer Identification Card is the document that allows employers to appoint representatives to carry out various in-person procedures before the IMSS, including:
- Submission of written communications.
- Submission of affiliation-related movements.
- Clarifications regarding collection matters.
- Procedures related to audit and inspection actions.
- Procedures relating to agricultural workers.
- Other administrative procedures before the Institute’s Subdelegations.

Recommendations
With the entry into force of this new scheme, we recommend that companies:
- Verify that the IMSS Mailbox is active.
- Review that the legal representative’s e.firma is valid.
- Confirm who the authorised individuals will be.
- Update internal controls regarding authorisations for procedures before the IMSS.
- Prepare to replace physical TIP cards from 10 September 2026.
The implementation of the Digital TIP represents a further step in the modernisation of IMSS electronic services, strengthening authentication mechanisms through the e.firma and simplifying the management of employer authorisations. In this context, companies should assess the operational impact of this measure in a timely manner to ensure the continuity of their procedures and dealings with the Institute.
