Tax Reminder: Haven’t received your Tax Refund yet? Here’s what to check before 31 July 2025

Although Mexico’s Tax Administration Service (SAT) hasn’t issued a specific guideline explaining why an automatic refund might be denied, the Income Tax Law (ISR) and its regulations outline certain requirements and conditions that must be met to exercise this taxpayer right.
If you’re an individual taxpayer who filed your annual return correctly and on time but haven’t received your refund yet, now is the time for a detailed review. Remember, the deadline to request an automatic refund is 31 July 2025.

What should you check?

1. Inconsistencies in the information submitted

Ensure that your reported income, deductions, and withholdings match the data submitted by third parties (employers, banks, etc.). Any discrepancies can delay the process.

2. Registered CLABE account

Verify that the bank account (CLABE) you registered is active, under your name, and correctly entered in the SAT portal.

3. SAT notifications

Log into your tax mailbox to check if the SAT has issued any observations or additional requirements.

4. Electronic Refund Form (FED for its acronym in Spanish)

If the automatic refund is not approved, you can submit the FED manually. This form allows you to attach supporting documentation for your request.

Why is it important to act before 31 July?

After this date, you’ll no longer be eligible for the automatic refund and will need to initiate a more complex and time-consuming process. A timely review can also help you detect errors that might lead to fines or audits.

At Forvis Mazars, our team of specialists in individual taxation is ready to help you review your return, validate your refund balance, and manage your refund efficiently.
