Practical Training Subsidy Scheme: application period starts in June 2026

Do you supervise a pupil or student within your organisation? If so, you may be eligible for the Practical Training Subsidy Scheme. With this subsidy, the Dutch government aims to encourage employers to offer practical training and work‑based learning placements. Again this year, the maximum subsidy amount is set at €2,700 per realised training or work‑based learning placement. Even if a pupil has discontinued their training programme or has left employment, you may apply for a pro rata contribution towards the supervision costs.

Conditions

To qualify for the Practical Training Subsidy Scheme, a number of conditions must be met. These conditions differ per education category:

  • vmbo
  • mbo‑bbl
  • hbo
  • PhD candidates and TOIOs
  • practical education
  • secondary special education

More information about the conditions and the application process can be found on the website of the Netherlands Enterprise Agency (RVO). website van de Rijksdienst voor Ondernemend Nederland (RVO).

Do not wait too long to apply

From Tuesday 2 June 2026 until Thursday 17 September 2026, 5:00 PM, you can apply for the subsidy for the 2025/2026 school and academic year with the RVO.

Do you have the correct eHerkenning level?

The Practical Training Subsidy Scheme is applied for retroactively, after the end of the academic year or after the supervision period has ended. The application must be submitted online via Direct (eLoket).

For this purpose, you need eHerkenning level 3 with the authorisation “RVO services at level eH3”. Do you currently have an eHerkenning tool with a lower reliability level or without the correct authorisation? In that case, you will need to upgrade your eHerkenning to a higher level and request the appropriate authorisation. Please note that obtaining or adjusting eHerkenning may take several weeks.

Not sure which level or authorisations you have? Please contact your eHerkenning provider or your Forvis Mazars payroll contact person. If you do not yet have eHerkenning, we recommend arranging an eHerkenning tool at level 3 with the required “RVO services at level eH3” authorisation, for a minimum duration of one year.

Assistance with the application

Do not wait until the last moment to submit your application. We recommend applying as soon as the supervision period has been completed.

The payroll advisers at Forvis Mazars are happy to assist you with the application process and can even handle the entire procedure on your behalf via eHerkenning.

If you engage our support, you will need to arrange a chain authorisation (ketenmachtiging). Please do this in time, as setting this up may also take several weeks.
