A day in the life of a tax consultant, with Ioana Gușu, Tax Consultant
We’re introducing our editorial series “A day in the life”, where you’ll discover, one by one, how a normal day looks like for our colleagues. As part of the series, we talk about responsibilities, personal rituals and communication styles with each one of them, discovering their stories. Joining us for our last interview of the series is Ioana Gușu, Tax Consultant.
We go through what a day in her life looks like below!
Hi, Ioana, thank you for joining us today! What is the first thing you do to prepare for a day of work?
Hello everyone, happy to be here! Once I arrive at the office, I like to go to the kitchen and make myself a cup of coffee that I enjoy while chatting with my colleagues. This essential step gives me the energy that I need to start my day, usually checking my emails and catching up with the latest news in tax.
Take us through your tasks and responsibilities!
Each day brings with itself an element of novelty and truly, the diversity of my tasks is what I enjoy the most. The first part of my role is handling advisory requests that come usually in the most interesting shapes. Here, my role is to fully understand the case and to carry out thorough research that forms the basis of our final recommendations. The other part consists of compliance work, with responsibilities including SAF-T, e-Invoice and e-Transport tasks.
Even if my workdays consist of a blend between those two parts, towards the end of each month, as we get closer to the 25th, the focus shifts almost entirely to compliance.
Team meetings or one-to-one chats, how do you stay up to date with your team?
It’s really a mix of both. We have recurring team meetings once a month, where we discuss ECJ cases and align ongoing projects, as well as regular meetings where we keep track of each other’s progress.
One-on-one chats are especially helpful in those moments when you handle a new task and find yourself thinking “What is going on here?”. I consider myself lucky to be part of a team that is always ready to help and that I can rely on, even for the small challenges along the way. Their guidance has been an important driver for my growth and the support I received made my journey easier and more fulfilling.
What is your afternoon pick-me-up of choice?
I always opt for a second coffee or something sweet, often paired with a quick chat with my colleagues. It’s the perfect reset before getting back to work.
How do you like to end a productive day at work?
I like to end the day by wrapping up my tasks, reviewing what’s still pending, and setting priorities for the next day. It helps me switch off, knowing everything is under control and I did everything I set myself to do.
Now, let’s keep it real with some rapid-fire questions!
Are you team hope my message finds you well or is it too millennial?
Too millennial for me, as a true member of Generation Z. I keep it simple and professional, no need for formal warm-ups every time.
How many times did you look at someone’s Teams background and wonder if that is their real home?
Not as often as you might think.
And finally, what is the best sign off to an email?
“Kind regards, Ioana”, always.
Thank you, Ioana, for all your insights!
