From junior to certified: chasing new heights of development

Given the nature of our activity, with time, we have created and maintained a company-wide continuous learning culture. Starting with junior colleagues and ending with the highest-ranking seniors within our hierarchy, each one of us understands the importance of both professional and personal development and contributes to an environment that fosters and supports it.

In our mission towards continuous development, professional certifications are, in the majority of cases, a must. Through them, we broaden our area of expertise, our knowledge and experience, making sure that we are equipped with the proper tools to best serve our clients. Thus, our company's support came naturally in the efforts of obtaining the relevant certifications for our field, with our colleagues being encouraged to pursue each opportunity.

We invited three of them to join us in a discussion about certifications and about what continuous development meant to each of them. Together, they shared their own experience with different certifications and courses they attended while continuing to grow their career with us at Forvis Mazars. Each one pointed out the impact these had on both their professional and personal lives, how these contributed to them becoming more well-rounded professionals and how the support received from their teams and peers played a major role in their achievements.

Let's hear it from the people in the center of the action below:

Wishing to further develop in her role as a manager and as a professional, Ioana Chiriac has recently enrolled in the ASPAAS programme. She is currently on her way to obtain the certification, gracefully balancing her studies with her role within Forvis Mazars.

For me, the ASPAAS programme was an experience that boosted both my personal and my professional development. During my first year I had the opportunity to learn and put into practice the theoretical knowledge I had acquired, gaining a better understanding of the responsibilities that come with the auditor profession.

Ultimately, the professional experience gained at Forvis Mazars allowed me to have my traineeship credited as an equivalent. I am currently preparing for my final exam and I am delighted to be just one step away from obtaining my certification.

My team played a vital role throughout the programme, constantly encouraging me to persevere and to make the most out of this opportunity. Having their constant support and being able to grow in an environment that encourages continuous learning gave me the confidence and motivation to see this project through to the end.

With more than 15 years of experience within our company, Iulian Condrea is the perfect example of a well-rounded professional, ticking off multiple essential certifications within his field. From ACCA, to CAFR or ASPAAS, it's safe to say that all of them shaped his expertise and positively impacted his development.

My ACCA journey began some time ago, and I clearly remember it being quite challenging for two reasons: the contrast with the traditional education system and the fact that it incorporates only two exam sessions per year. These also coincided with the busiest periods of the audit season.
Although challenging, the ACCA experience had a big contribution to my professional development and beyond. I learnt a new way of studying, acquired a great deal of technical knowledge, ways to manage time pressure during exams, the capacity to synthesise information and, last but not least, discipline. The latter was essential in maintaining a balance between auditing, my studies and my personal life.
The ACCA study materials impressed me from the start, as they were very well designed and structured. Furthermore, the highly qualified professors were a real help throughout my journey.

The ASPAAS experience, comprised of a three-year traineeship and the final exams, helped me consolidate my technical knowledge, particularly in local legislation.
Both experiences had a significant impact on my development, giving my career a real boost. They helped me transition from being an economist to becoming an auditor, recognised both nationally and internationally.

Branching out from the more traditional certifications, we find our colleague Cristina Nimerenco. Cristina is our most recent graduate of Beyond Business School, a fast-track program spanning 10 weeks, specifically designed for emerging leaders seeking to accelerate their development. The programme encapsulates themes such as management and business strategies, enhancing both the hard and the soft skills of participants.

Attending the courses of Beyond Business School has been one of the most valuable development experiences of recent years. The programme has given me greater clarity on topics I was already dealing with in my role as a manager, such as team coordination and building a culture based on feedback. At the same time, it has given me new perspectives in areas such as artificial intelligence, business strategy, venture capital and entrepreneurship.

One of the most important lessons I learnt was that technology and AI do not replace creativity and critical thinking but can enhance them when used as tools for learning and challenging your own ideas. The experience also reinforced my belief that a team's success is built on quality relationships, discipline, transparency and embracing vulnerability, not just technical expertise.

The final project, which I developed and presented to a panel that included investors, gave me the confidence that I can turn ideas into concrete initiatives beyond my day-to-day professional work. The fact that I completed the entire programme at the same time as the audit busy season showed me that limits are often based on our own perceptions rather than on reality. This confirmed one of the lessons that stayed with me after Beyond Business School: success is not about motivation, but about discipline.

At the same time, I've come to realise that leaders and teams are truly forged during difficult times, because, as I learnt on the programme, if you can't lead your team through tough times, you'll never make it through the good ones.
