Meet our new leader

Bernadette qualified as a barrister-at-law at the Inns of Court School of Law, Gray’s Inn, London, and holds a Bachelor of Laws (LLB) from the University of Essex in the United Kingdom. She began her career as a practicing barrister representing clients in court in London and the home counties for two years before serving as in-house counsel at Tindall Riley P&I Club and later at ExxonMobil in London. For more than 25 years, she has been a trusted legal advisor in Vietnam, working with two leading international law firms, Clifford Chance and Gide Loyrette Nouel, and as a legal expert at Ernst & Young (EY) in Hanoi.

Her expertise spans dispute resolution and arbitration, having advised on numerous high-profile cases involving landmark construction projects under SIAC, ICC, JCCA, and VIAC arbitration rules. Notably, she has advised a number of clients in applications for the recognition and enforcement of foreign arbitral awards in the Vietnamese courts pursuant to the 1958 New York Convention.

Bernadette also has unique experience in investor-state dispute resolution, representing both government and international investors in major BIT disputes under the UNCITRAL rules. Beyond arbitration, Bernadette advises on corporate and commercial law, employment law, and complex legal matters for clients including a major hotel network in Vietnam and one of the world’s leading employment law firms.

Bernadette has served as a UNDP expert and has been a frequent speaker at international conferences and seminars on construction and infrastructure projects, sharing her insights and shaping industry’s best practices.
