Joseph Sammut Senior VAT Advisor

Joseph Sammut currently works as a part-time VAT Senior Advisor for Forvis Mazars in Malta.
He joined the firm in 2023 after retiring from the Malta Public Service where he had worked for 12 years on Income Tax enforcement and 20 years on VAT. Joseph occupied various positions including Assistant Director FSS, Director Operations VAT and Director General VAT.
For 18 years, he also participated in meetings of the EU Council Working Party on Tax Questions – Indirect Taxation in Brussels.
Joseph is a member of the VAT Expert Group of the European Commission and also member of the Indirect Tax Committee of the Malta Institute of Accountants.
He is also the author of the book “VAT Explained: A practical overview of aspects of VAT legislation” which provides a comprehensive discussion on the most common and important aspects of VAT legislation, especially from a Maltese VAT perspective.
