Starting strong (after snooze)

6:00am
Multiple alarms going off… and yes, I’m that person who hits snooze far too many times. Honestly, who doesn’t love those extra 9 minutes? My team is working from the office today, so I jump out of bed feeling motivated to start my day. I get my morning routine going, and the best part, picking out my outfit of the day (yes, I’m guilty of a mirror picture in the office elevators each morning… non-negotiable!).

7:30am
I drive to the train station, usually cutting it a bit close because, well, snooze wins again. On the train, my headphones are blasting my favourite songs whilst I catch up on the latest tax and finance news and then a good scroll through LinkedIn (because, networking, right?).

8:30am
I get into the office, choose my desk for the day, and log in. I like to start my mornings by checking my emails, typically, this involves new tasks, meeting invitations, and other staff/tax-related updates I may need to be across.

Deep work and development: Tackling tax and learning new skills

9:00am
To get my mind focused I get started on some IASs (a progress payment to the ATO so that businesses don’t face a large bill at year-end). I also have some payroll tax returns (reporting total wages, allowances, superannuation, etc. to the state revenue office) pending in my workflow – time to progress those for review as lodgement deadlines are fast approaching.

10:00am
Time to get into some compliance work. Recently I’ve been learning the ropes of some international compliance – it’s challenging and different to the local compliance jobs that I’m used to but also super exciting. It’s such a great opportunity to be working on a job out of my comfort zone as it will broaden my knowledge and build confidence.

11:00am
“Oh no…” I’m a bit stuck on my tax reconciliation. Unfortunately, the senior who prepared this job last year is in a meeting so I can’t ask them for help just yet but not to worry, I can reach out to the partner in charge of the job for some assistance instead.

11:30am
Breakthrough! We worked through my queries together and now I understand where I went wrong. It’s great to gain insight from the years of experience our partners bring. I really appreciate how approachable and supportive everyone is.

12:00pm
Lunch time! There are so many restaurants to choose from in the city, I can be a bit indecisive. Let’s also go for a walk-through Flagstaff Gardens. It’s a great way to recharge for the busy afternoon ahead.

Collaboration and client care: From seminars to solutions

1:00pm
Time to gather in our boardroom, we have one of our monthly tax seminars (bonus – these sessions count towards our required CPD - Continuing Professional Development hours). We discuss the latest tax development and dive deeper into a special topic.

3:00pm
A new email has come in; a client has some queries they would like us to attend to. Let’s compile the information we need and give the ATO a call to confirm some specifics.

3:30pm
Success! We’ve confirmed the details with the ATO and can move forward confidently. Let’s draft an email back to the client and update the manager with the ATO’s advice so we can respond promptly.

4:00pm
*Buzz… Buzz* My manager’s calls, looks like the tax returns and financial statements we sent out to a client yesterday have come back signed. Time to arrange lodgement and get some adjusting journals prepared for our client so that their books align.

5:00pm
WOW, the day has flown! Time to wrap things up. I tick off everything I’ve completed today from my to-do list and pack up. Tomorrow’s a work-from-home day since the train line’s down luckily, Forvis Mazars is flexible with hybrid work.

Evening balance: Growth, gratitude and goals

6:00pm
Home sweet home. Depending on the day, I either head off to the gym or, dive into CA study; however, today, I’m motivated to do both!

9:30pm
Last CA study push before bed. I’m grateful that Forvis Mazars actively supports our CA journey, assisting us whenever and wherever we may need. Reflecting on the day, I feel grateful for the support, the learning, and the fact that I’m growing in a place that truly invests in me. Time to recharge and look forward to tomorrow’s challenges.
