Networking event "Rebuilding Ukraine: opportunities for the private sector"

On November 12th 2024, we had the privilege of hosting the "Rebuilding Ukraine: opportunities for the private sector" networking event in Warsaw, bringing together over 100 high-level officials and senior professionals united by a shared commitment to Ukraine's economic recovery and reconstruction.

The event highlighted that Ukraine’s reconstruction is well underway, presenting numerous opportunities for private sector growth. The times are challenging but with Ukraine's vision for future in such times of uncertainty, a variety of financial tools available and inspiring success stories shared by businesses, that might be a right moment to invest and grow in Ukraine.

Participants had the opportunity to:

  • Gain insights into Ukraine's current situation and reconstruction efforts.
  • Explore financial opportunities in rebuilding projects.
  • Engage directly with high-level representatives from the Ukrainian government, international institutions, and businesses already active in or considering entry into the Ukrainian market.

We’re excited to share a closer look at the key topics discussed, including reconstruction priorities, various financial tools, and the vital role of private investment in boosting Ukraine’s economy.

1. Ukrainian Government strategies & key priorities for reconstruction.

Our distinguished speakers — Ukraine’s government representatives, including Oleksii Sobolev, First Deputy Minister of Economy of Ukraine; Maryna Denysiuk, Deputy Minister for Communities and Territories Development; and Yuliia Kyian, Director General for Strategic Planning and European Integration at the Ministry of Energy of Ukraine — highlighted Ukraine’s key needs, priorities, and strategies to address them. These priorities encompass strengthening international partnerships, progressing EU negotiations, and mobilizing support for long-term development.

2. Financing of Ukraine’s economic recovery and reconstruction and international coordination.

Huge thanks to Pierre Heilbronn, the French Special Envoy for Ukraine’s relief and reconstruction; Arvid Tuerkner, Managing Director for Ukraine and Moldova of the EBRD; Katarzyna Kowalska from KUKE and Ary Naim of The World Bank Group. This segment addressed the essential funding mechanisms needed to drive Ukraine’s economic recovery. A variety of funding options and financial tools are available for Ukrainian and foreign businesses: from loans and investment insurance to export credits, guarantees, and grants.

3. Sharing experiences from private sector investment and public projects.

Pavel Pilipenko of Schneider Electric Ukraine shared the experience of company’s participation in restoration of energy facilities, and Adam Wolszczak from ASEE (Asseco Group) how the company realized its first in Ukraine in 2024 in a Ukrainian healthcare software developer and is doing business in and with Ukraine like in the other parts of the world. While Jakub Bińkowski from the Union of Entrepreneurs and Employers (ZPP) shared perspectives on how Ukrainian and Polish businesses can cooperate and on the importance of helping Ukrainian businesses to access to EU markets.

Our sincere thanks to all our speakers for their insights and to our attendees for their thoughtful participation.
