Personal quote / vision

Estate planning is a wonderful field that cannot be described in just a few words. The same applies to my work. Building bridges between legal and tax aspects is what it's all about. What inspires me so much about this profession is the way in which the various fields come together, sometimes in an almost mathematical way. I really enjoy finding tailor-made solutions to problems that seem difficult at first glance.

Specialist experience

In my practice, I focus on advising high net worth individuals in the broadest sense of the word, with a particular emphasis on national and international estate planning. I advise wealthy families and individuals, directors/major shareholders, advisors to private clients (such as family offices, solicitors, bankers, asset managers, solicitors and tax advisers) and charities. This includes:

  • Business succession
  • Cohabitation, marriage and divorce
  • Gift planning
  • Living wills and medical powers of attorney
  • Estate planning and settlement
  • Administration and execution
  • Charities (ANBI) and art

Education and work experience

  • 1999 – 2003 | Utrecht University | Law and economics in business and society | Cum laude
  • 2003 – 2005 | Utrecht University | Notarial law and tax law | Cum laude
  • 2005 – 2006 | Cambridge University | LL.M
  • 2007 – present | Leiden University | Lecturer in inheritance law and estate planning, PhD in law
  • 2006 - 2024 | Mazars | Estate Planner / Tax Advisor
  • 2019 - 2024 | Mazars | Partner private clients
  • 2024 – present | Forvis Mazars | Partner private clients

Additional positions

  • Director of Forvis Mazars Bewind & Executele B.V.
  • Chair of the ambassadors for the Concertgebouw
  • Chair of the Sebastiaangenootschap (The Hague Historical Museum and Museum de Gevangenpoort)
  • Member of IAETL (International Academy for Trust and Estate Law)
  • In addition to my work at Forvis Mazars, I teach Inheritance Law and Estate Planning at Leiden University. I am also working on a thesis on a specific aspect of inheritance law and its tax implications: the fideï commis (also known as a two-stage gift or donation).
  • I enjoy sharing my knowledge in various ways, both with people who are looking for the best solution for their situation and with people who want to learn about the subject. That is why I enjoy teaching, publishing and regularly speaking at internal and external meetings on estate planning. Are you looking for a speaker on (international) estate planning? Please contact me!
