Amendment to the Factory Act
On 5 July 2016, the cabinet approved an amendment to the Factory Act of 1992 which does the following: (i) provides a procedure for obtaining a factory licence; (ii) amends the definition of a factory; and (iii) sets the requirements for factory insurance.
Change of BOI approval for expatriate positions
From 1 June 2016, the rules for filing documents for approval of an expatriate employee’s work permit have changed for companies that receive Board of Investment incentives.
Amendment to the Trademark Act
Under the AEC timeframe, members must accede to the Madrid Protocol by 2015. As a result, the Department of Intellectual Property has started drafting an amendment to the Trademark Act, which will become effective on 28 July 2016.
Foreign investment in the insurance business
The Office of the Insurance Commission will give foreign entities the opportunity to increase their investment in life insurance and non-life insurance businesses.
99-year state land lease scheme considered
The government is now considering a new lease scheme to make it more attractive to investors. According to the applicable law, the law allows a 30-year maximum lease period, with the possibility of renewing the lease for additional 30-year periods which it is unattractive to major investors.
